Dollar Bay – Canary Wharf
About the project
Dollar Bay is a stunning 31-storey waterside skyscraper that sits magnificently within the glassy skyline of the prestigious Isle of Dogs. It is currently under construction, and will soon be the newest residential addition to the bustling business district of Canary Wharf. Dollar Bay is made up of 115 modern apartments and luxurious penthouses, with a unique crystal structure that Aquamark Cleaning helps to keep clean, sparkling and dust-free at all times.
The challenges
The construction work at Dollar Bay meant that a lot of dust was produced. As such, the glass needed to be properly protected from a build-up of limescale (something that can occur as a by-product of a dusty construction site). The windows were maintained in phases throughout the construction process. At the start of the project, our team had to wash them before the Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) had been installed, which presented a challenge. Also, as the building is complete, the developers have needed us to perform internal cleans on the four floor levels of glass wall – something that has been very interesting from an access point of view! On top of this, the property features vented winter gardens that open and close on top of each other via hinges; while very attractive, they need to be cleaned using a bespoke approach to ensure there is minimal overspray on the windows (which can cause unsightly drip marks).
Aquamark’s expert solutions
To overcome the challenge of not having a BMU in place, we supplied and installed temporary abseiling eyebolts that provided our team with suitable anchor points for abseiling safely down the skyscraper. We then removed these expertly after use to ensure that, when Dollar Bay was completed, it would have a beautiful finish with no unsightly marks or obstructions. Now, in terms of the internal cleans, it is not very often that we abseil inside a building! But, a sliding rail system had been installed internally, which meant that our fearless abseil team could slide along the inside of the glass and make it sparkle. We provide abseiling, cradle and water-fed pole cleaning to Dollar Bay four times per year.
Another happy customer
Philip Oades, Estates Manager at Mount Anvil (the property developer for Dollar Bay), said: “We have been utilising the services of Aquamark Limited for more than four years and have always found the team to be flexible, reliable and offer value for money. Our most recent development at Dollar Bay incorporates a complicated façade that includes louvered panels to winter gardens; however, the expertise of Aquamark has shone through and their willingness to adapt and work with us has not gone unnoticed.”
