The Whiteley

A redevelopment of the historic Whiteleys department store in Bayswater, London, into a mixed-use complex with residences.

As an extremely prestigious development, The Whiteley is under a spotlight, and maintaining the site is essential. A few areas of the building were previously inaccessible for cleaning, including the iconic dome, due to the previous access strategy not being correctly implemented.

Why Aquamark?

Aquamark were able to help The Whiteley by reviewing and redrafting the access strategy for the development, and can now successfully clean all areas of the site with no access issues.

Solution

Weekly cleans are carried out for the ground floor windows, communal areas, and retail units using WFP and hand tools.

Quarterly cleans are carried out to clean all external windows and the glass domes via rope access and WFP.

Glass domes are cleaned using trolley systems, and a gantry access ladder is also used for some of the cleans, which the Aquamark team are fully trained to use.

The MEWP cleaning method is used for cleaning underneath the glass domes.

Once a year, Aquamark carries out a stone façade clean, due to the light stone becoming marked easily. This is done via steam cleaning using Torik.
