Aquamark’s daring window cleaning team are famed for working at height. When they’re not up a ladder, in a cherry picker or working in a cradle, you’ll probably see them abseiling down the side of a great big skyscraper. We pride ourselves in having the very best training and equipment, so what look like daredevil stunts are actually carefully controlled affairs.
While we’re in the air, we get a chance to take in some amazing sights, including the London skyline. Not only have we cleaned some of London’s most striking buildings, we’re fortunate enough to get a bird’s eye view of them every day, from some of the most remarkable vantage points in the city.
Window cleaning in London gives us some great views
Biggest buildings
London isn’t a city known for skyscrapers, but it’s slowly catching up to world leaders like New York, Shangai, Tokyo and Dubai. At the time of publication, the tallest building in London is The Shard, which is 306 metres (1,004 ft) tall. It’s the tallest in the EU and the UK, too, with the exception of the Emley Moor transmitter near Huddersfied.
Thankfully, Emley Moor doesn’t have many windows.
But back to London for a moment. The Shard’s observation deck is split: floor 69 offers an indoor view, while there’s an open air section on floor 72. To our cleaners, the Shard looks like a huge, slim pyramid; fittingly, it gets its distinctive look (and name) from 11,000 panes of glass.
That’s a whopping 600,000 square feet of glazing – no mean feat for a window cleaner.
Striking attractions
It might not be the tallest, or the most famous, but the Leadenhall Building is one London skyscraper you’ve probably noticed before. Like the Shard, it has an angled, spiky appearance, and looks almost like a sail in the wind. This brand new skyscraper is a relatively new addition to the skyline, as it was completed in 2014.
Another notable glass structure is the Bridge of Aspiration, part of the Royal Ballet School. This twisting structure is an unmistakeable landmark in London’s vibrant Covent Garden.
Aquamark was hired to clean the bridge – no mean feat, and a cleaning job that required specialist attention. Not only did we use hand cleaning tools (and water-fed poles), but we also arranged to have the road closed so we could ensure the public were safe – and dry.
You can read more about our Bridge of Aspiration assignment in our case study here.
Challenge accepted
London is known for its daring architecture, and we’re proud to have cleaned some of its most striking structures. From 1 Commercial Street to the Altitude Building, our team has seen it all: awkward angles, daunting distances and some of the most complicated window cleaning demands that any company has had to deal with.
The London skyline is one of the most distinctive in the world. Don’t let your dirty, grimy building stand out. Even if other cleaners have turned down the job, you’d be surprised at what Aquamark can achieve.
